The two main cities that come to mind when you think
of Russia are Moscow and St Petersburg. While doing one of these cruises,
you will spend time in both of these cities. I found that touring the Kremlin
and Red Square changed my view about Russia. I thought it would be dull
and boring. Not so. The cities are a hub of excitement and full of colorful
buildings and happy people.
Along the river cruise you will learn of the culture
that has made the people what they are today. There are many villages and
towns full of beautiful cathedrals, fortified monasteries, and several legendary
onion domes. While in Moscow you can take a trip on the Metro. They actually
have art hanging there. A trip to shop in the famed GUM department store
is a must. In the evening there will be tour to see a performance of the
world-famous Moscow state circus. This circus is known for its breathtaking
acrobats, music and trapeze artists. On one of the days in Moscow we went
to visit the Armory. The Armory features a vast collection of royal treasures,
including jewels, crowns and royal armor. I found it interesting to find
that the Czar had a throne that was full of gems. It actually did not look
too comfortable but was impressive.
Viking river cruises sails along the Moscow Canal and
Volga River before arriving in the towns of Uglich and Yaroslavl. These
are two old towns that will allow cruisers to tour churches and see some
of the colorful icons and impressive frescoes.
On day 6 of this wonderful vacation you will visit Goritzy.
The wonderful things here to see are the small wooden chapels and a wonderful
museum.
The ship will sail along the Voga-Baltic Waterway, a
system of rivers and canals that links the Volga river with the Baltic sea,
spanning 229 miles and seven locks.
On day 7 sail along Lake Onega, Europe's second largest
lake. The views are spectacular and the tour of the Transfiguration church
is a wonder. This church is three-tiered and was built in 1714 without the
use of a single nail.
The last day is a very relaxing day cruising from Lake
Onega to Lake Ladoga along the Svir River. What a way to enjoy the end of
this spectacular cruise.
If I can tell you more about my experience on this one
in a lifetime cruise please give me a call me.
