Your first destination may be the amazing city of Auckland.
It is a thriving metropolis and only half an hour from the peaceful beaches
and harbor, providing easy access to all the hotspots the area has to offer.
The beaches are superb. As you walk along the slopes of Mount Eden volcano
(the highest in Auckland), you will pass ancient remains of Maori forts,
terraces, homes and food pits. These are two different ways to enjoy the
area.
There is a wildlife sanctuary on Tiritiri Matangi that
is a favorite attraction of Auckland. This sanctuary became a home for many
creatures left homeless when the forests where cleared for pasture. Hundreds
of colorful birds such as the tui, fantail, silvereye, grey warbler, bellbird
and the spotless crake can be observed while on a visit there.
The Bay of Islands is made up of 144 small islands and
it is impossible to tell which is the most beautiful. On Cape Brett you
will get to see the famous Hole in the Rock. It is a natural formation that
was etched by wind and waves over thousands of years. Take a jet boat through
the Hole and you will experience a feeling that will leave you feeling like
'Wow'. But this can be topped by an afternoon of swimming with dolphins
in their natural habitat. This is something not to be missed.
After your adventures in the Bay of Islands, head to
Rotorua. This area is known for its rich Maori culture and incredible geothermal
activity. People come from all over the world to relax in the natural hot
springs and enjoy the city's countless spas. The region's philosophy relates
to providing excellent hospitality and it will come across from each person
that you meet. There is a Maori cultural show which includes a delicious
meal and interesting music and dance performances that should be seen by
all.
After relaxing at Rotorua a trip to see the capital city
of Wellington is in order. It offers cosmopolitan attractions as well as
a quaint atmosphere of a small city. There are many restaurants, museums,
and shops showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the country. Many fantastic
views of the city and waterfront can be seen from the historic cable car.
One of the highlights of your visit to Wellington will probably be a tour
highlighting some of the sites featured in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The city is filled with guides offering such tours so it is not difficult
to find one that suits your interests.
You will cross over to Christchurch on the South Island
via a ferry. Christchurch is located on the Avon River and is full of English
architecture. A ride on the Skyline Gondola will amaze you with breathtaking
views of Lake Wakatipu and the distant Remarkable Mountains. New Zealanders
love rugby and it is highly suggested that you try to take in one game.
It is a great way to experience the local culture.
A beautiful area known for its historic whitestone architecture,
charming fishing villages and interesting wildlife is Dunedin. A visit to
the Otago Penninsula will give you the chance to see rare yellow-eyed penguins
at the Oamaru Blue Penguin colony. Hordes of them come ashore all together
at dusk'a truly delightful sight.

beautiful country please call Rose or Barbara about this 19 day Collette
