Spend summer days along the Danube, the Porcelain Road,
the Glass Road or the famed Romantic Road of southern Germany. Take a journey
through the magic of Bavaria and Franconia visiting storybook towns, Cinderella
castles and mythological forests while tasting the region's unique food,
beer and wine. It's a rewarding experience of vivid history and vibrant
modern-day life.
Along the Romantic Road, you can stay in Wurzburg or
the towns of Rothenburg o.d. Tauber and Dinkelsbuhl that were spared wartime
devastation, saving their original charm to be enjoyed forever. Where the
Porcelain Road winds through the Franconia wine region, stay in Bamberg
and Coburg being sure to visit the nearby Hummel figurine factory. Along
the Danube stay in Nuremberg, Regensburg and Passau, the latter situated
where the rivers of the Danube, Inn and Ils meet. In southern Bavaria, visit
the Alps playground of Garmisch, the town of Oberammergau that is known
for its Passion Play performed every ten years, and see 'Mad' Ludwig's heralded
castles, Schloss Neuschwanstein probably being the most photographed. In
the Bavarian Forest of southeast Germany lies the Glass Road that runs between
Passau and Neustadt an der Waldnaab. Your tour should include visits to
the Joska Glass Factory and Rothau Museumdorf where early Bavarian homes
are preserved after being disassembled and relocated.
You have many ways to see and experience the region.
Munich is the gateway to Bavaria and major airlines provide service to its
modern international airport. Take time to see Munich, from its rich history
to Hofbrauhaus and world-class shopping. A visit in late September is an
invitation to join the Oktoberfest celebration. From Munich, travel on a
comfortable touring bus having a knowledgeable regional guide or travel
independently by car. The excellent roads and signage in southern Germany
make self-touring pleasurable. Along the way, you can take local guided
tours lead by English-speaking guides who live there. Another way to experience
southern Germany is river cruising. Your floating hotel transports you along
the scenic rivers, stopping in towns and providing guided tours.
Create a special trip to magical and vibrant Bavaria
and Franconia, visiting the cities and towns and experiencing the rich life
of the countryside. A trip in June 2006 can include tickets to World Cup
Soccer matches at two of the tournament venues, Munich and Nuremberg. Whether
it is only two of you or a large group, use a Bavarian Travel Specialist
