Your credit card companies are looking for irregularities in spending on your
account. Let them know that you're traveling so that they don't inadvertently stop
approvals thinking that it's fraudulent use.
They can also describe the services they provide while you travel. They can tell
you how widely their card is accepted in the area that you're traveling. Many companies
also offer extra insurance for your rental car, luggage and purchases. Find out
what their currency conversion fee is so you can use the card with the best rate
abroad.
Make sure you get another way to reach your bank since the "800" number on the
back of the card probably won't work outside the United States.
