Well, yes and no.
Your Visa, MasterCard and American Express cards are great for traveling. They
are safer than carrying cash and you usually get a better exchange rate than changing
the money yourself. The credit card company can always charge back any disputed
charges as well.
Debit cards may not work at all locations outside the United States.
Leave all your store credit cards locked in a safe location at home
It's best to call your credit card companies before you travel abroad. Advise
them that you will be travelling since they look for differences in spending patterns
for your protection. Also, the "800" number on the back of the card probably won't
work abroad so get another phone number for the location you will be at. This way
you can call and report any loss or theft while traveling.
